Hi,

The Roman experience surely is a unique one. Today I started off by visiting the Sistine Chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the residence of the pope and where all papal affairs take place. The Chapel is located in Vatican City. There is quite a lengthy walk in the palace which feels like visiting a museum of Gold and marble to reach the famous Chapel known for Michelangelo’s masterpiece: The Creation of Adam. Unfortunately it is forbidden to photograph the paintings but it was quite nice to take a moment to  admire the perfection of the intricate detail and the incredible ceiling art of the artists in a calm setting (even if there are literally a million people at once, it is recommended to not speak inside the Chapel).  Each creation was so art rich, the artistic skills are unbelievable. I was surprised that The Creation of Adam painting is much smaller in real life than how it is portrayed in textbooks. Also The Creation of Adam is surrounded by other artistic masterpieces such as Trial of Moses by Botticelli, The last Judgement also by Michelangelo and many more making the ceiling a mosaic of art pieces coming together.

Later on I spent the evening at Piazza Navona. A romantic square decorated with lovely centered fountains, street side cafes, street vendors and entertainers with pizzerias and tratorria where handmade pasta can be enjoyed. A true Roman experience where outdoor inspiring architectural art and Italian life takes place.

Until next time,

Evelina

  2. Thank you for sharing this Evelina. I have never been to Europe and through your pictures I felt like I was visiting Rome and the Vatican.

I imagine being there it would capture all your senses as you walked through Vatican Square or marveled at the intricacy of the centuries old masterpieces.

Love seeing the architecture. Craftsmanship that you might not find as much nowadays. 🙂

        1. Great post this one. Seems really fitting to be taken around Italy lately when a lot of European news concerns Italy. You take the impersonal edge of it though and make a few things about the world alive through your travels and warmth.

          2. Thanks. We are saying goodbye to our local tonight. Closes on Sunday. I love your blog and seeing around Italy. I have never been to Italy when I have been in Europe. I would like to see Spain and Italy some time. Cuisine in both places interests me. I could go back to France again. That is for sure xx

          3. I was in Brittany mainly in the late 90’s. My friends have since divorced. At a metal gig now in Burnley, Melbourne. Heard some good musicians. The Barbarian is taking photos.
Hope the waning moon banishes any obstacles to your reign. 😇🙃

        1. Very cool, especially since Turkey is quite close to Italy compared to Canada. I would totally recommend yearly trips because Italy always has great scenery to offer (and Turkey too, I loved it there). Happy future travels!
